Dr. Eben A. DeArmond, Jr.

Dr. DeArmond has been practicing in Cleveland Tennessee since his graduation from The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1982. His undergraduate degree was completed in 1978 at The University of Tennessee at Knoxville following graduation from Cleveland Day School in 1974.

Dr. DeArmond has been active in the community as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 10, as a member of the Cleveland YMCA Endowment Fund Board of Directors, and as President of the Cleveland Branch of the Chattanooga Area Metro YMCA Board of Directors. Dr. DeArmond is also a member of the Cleveland Noon-day Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.

Dr. DeArmond has been committed to professional growth and excellence since he began his career. His treatment philosophy and clinical skills have been developed through relationships with several of the most recognized mentors in dentistry. Early contact and training with dentists such as Peter Dawson, Pete Roach, Jack Turbyfill, and Jose’ Medina were the beginning of a personal journey toward excellence as a professional. Through excellent mentors, the new leaders and educators have been identified and are strong influences in the continued growth of the practice philosophy.

Dr. DeArmond served a five-year gubernatorial appointment to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry where he severed on and chaired several committees. He served as President of the Board of Dentistry in 2005-2006. During his year as President, he also served as the Vice-President of and a program presenter to the Conference of Southern Deans and Dental Examiners. The Conference of Southern Deans and Dental Examiners organization represents all of the southeastern dental schools and their Boards of Dentistry. Through the Board of Dentistry, he has served and continues to serve as a Southern Regional Testing Agency Examiner for Dental Licensure. He has served on the SRTA Long-range Planning Committee, the Examination Committee, and the Examination Review Committee. He most recently served as a Clinic Floor Coordinator.

He has remained active in organized dentistry through his membership in the American Dental Association and its state and local constituencies serving as President of the Chattanooga Dental Society in 2001-2002. Following his year as President, he was awarded the Fellowship Award by the Tennessee Dental Association, which is one of the highest awards presented by the TDA. He has held other leadership positions within these organizations on local, state and national levels.

Dr. DeArmond was recognized by his peers in 1997 for his “conspicuous services rendered in the Art and Science of Dentistry” when he was inducted as a Fellow into the International College of Dentists. In the year 2000, he was again recognized “in recognition of services and devotion to the advancement of the science and art of Dentistry” when he was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.

Dr. DeArmond is an Advisor to the Pankey Institute Board of Directors. The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education is one of the world’s premier institutions for advanced dental education. The Institute has a 40+-year history of training some of the finest comprehensive care dentist worldwide. The Institute’s commitment to complete oral health through thorough and comprehensive patient examination followed by patient education and treatment has established a pattern of treatment that serves as a model for other teaching institutions to follow. Dr. DeArmond has serves as a member of the Visiting Faculty at the Institute since 2007.

Dr. DeArmond is also active in several internationally recognized Academies including The Academy of Operative Dentistry, The Academy of Gold Foil Operators, and the Hollenback-Medina Operative Dentistry Seminar which is an affiliate club of the Academy of R. V. Tucker Study Clubs. . In February of 2006 he was invited to present a program to the prestigious American Academy of Restorative Dentistry during their annual meeting in Chicago. Following his presentation, he was invited to join the Academy as a full member. Dr. DeArmond has served on the Council of The Academy of Restorative Dentistry and most recently has been nominated as Vice-President of The Academy of Operative Dentistry.  Local dental study clubs allow for personal interaction with colleagues while enjoying short programs of interest.

 Dr. Dearmond and his wife, Denise, have been married since 1997 years. Denise is an officer at Southern Heritage Bank. She serves as Director of Marketing and is responsible for coordination and implementation of the banks marketing efforts. They both enjoy travel and sports, particularly UT Football and Basketball, as well as gardening. They take great pleasure spending time with their triplet nieces and nephew, Hannah, Bailey, and Sam and their godchild Hayden.  Dr. DeArmond is an avid golfer and fly fisherman. Dr. DeArmond and Denise attend Broad Street United Methodist Church.

 


 

Brittany McGowan

Brittany is our Office Manager and a registered dental assistant. She joined our practice team in 2004. Brittany oversees the day-to-day operations of the practice. She is Dr. DeArmond’s primary scheduler and works with our clinical team to coordinate and assist patients with their care.

She brings to us a background in medical billing and insurance as well as experience in the finance field. She is skilled in helping patients deal with insurance and financial matters that can be so confusing. Her warm smile and “what can I do to help you” approach to her job make her a valuable member of our team.

Brittany is a graduate of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, GA. She is married to Dax McGowan of Cleveland. Brittany has a stepson Knox and a son Jaxson.

 She and her family are members of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church. Brittany has always been athletic and continues to enjoy outdoor activities in addition to shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

 


 

 

Cathy Smith

Cathy has been a Dental Hygienist in our practice since 2000. She is a
Cleveland native and a Graduate of Bradley Central High School. She attended East Tennessee State University earning an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene in 1982 and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health in 1983.

Cathy returned to the Cleveland area in 1983 and divided her time between a general practice in Athens, TN and Dr. Paul Bacon’s Pediatric practice in Cleveland. She continues to share her talents with our practice and Dr. Bacon.

She is married to Charlie Smith, a career educator in Bradley Country. They have twin daughters. Amanda Gibson who is and ICU nurse at Skyridge and Megan Pope who is an ER nurse at Parkridge. They have one grandson Carter Gibson.  Cathy and Charlie are active members of Westwood Baptist Church. Cathy’s main interests include reading and spending time with family and friends.

 


 

 

Lindsay Moreland

Ms. Lindsay Cheek Moreland, BS, RDH has joined our practice in 2009 as a Dental Hygienist.  She brings 30+ years of experience in Dental Hygiene to our dental team.  Lindsay is a graduate of Cleveland High School and obtained her pre-clinical requirements at MTSU.

She graduated from The University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences Dental Hygiene program in Memphis in 1985 with a BS in Dental Hygiene.  She served as president of her Dental Hygiene Class and President of the College of Allied Health Sciences while training in Memphis. Lindsay’s enthusiasm and dedication to her patients is evident upon first meeting.

Lindsay has two children, Will who is employed in Nashville, and Madison who is attending college at UT Knoxville.

In addition to her family and professional activities, Lindsay is very involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Relay for life, and long distance walking.

 


 

Marilyn Barrett

Marilyn is our Clinical Coordinator and advisor to the Administrative Staff. She is a State of Tennessee, Registered Dental Assistant, and a Nationally Certified Dental Assistant (DANB). Marilyn has been in the practice since 1973 and has worked with Dr. DeArmond since 1982. She is knowledgeable of all aspects of the clinical practice and is actively involved in assisting patients and Administrative team members with coordination of complex dental procedures.

Marilyn has attended numerous continuing education courses given by some of the countries most recognized Dental Clinicians. This knowledge and experience allows Marilyn to assist the doctor and patients in all aspects of clinical dentistry. Her genuine love for her patients and her profession are obvious in her enthusiasm. Being able to watch the children that she treated early in her career, now bringing their children to the practice is a source of great pride.

Marilyn has four children and several grandchildren. Her hobbies are reading, cooking, and traveling. She takes great joy in her family, and she seldom misses an opportunity to prepare a Sunday evening meal for a weekly family gathering.


 

 

Robin Shadden

Robin, our senior Dental Hygienist, has over 30 years of experience and has been with our practice since 1991. She is a 1981 graduate of Bradley High School and attended Cleveland State Community College before graduating Cum Laude with an A.S. degree in Dental Hygiene in 1984 from Chattanooga State. She received the Dental Hygiene Award for Excellence for her graduating Dental Hygiene class.

She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the Tennessee Dental Hygienists’ Association, and the Third District Dental Hygienists’ Association. She has attended countless continuing education courses and “hands on” participation courses presented by the nation’s top clinicians. We can always count on her to be the first to try new techniques as technology is always evolving in Dentistry. Since our digital radiology conversion several years ago, Robin and our team have mastered several different methods of producing low dosage digital images including 2 Dimensional panoramic and 3 Dimensional CT scans. These scans can easily be shared with our supporting dental specialists.

Robin and her husband, Jeff, have two sons, Logan, an employee of UPS and Luke who is a student at Cleveland High School. She is an avid animal lover and adores her two “fur babies” Scarlett and Truman. Her leisure activities include spending time with her family, shopping for antiques, gardening, and any activity that allows her to be outdoors. She is a member of Westwood Baptist Church and a former member of the Sunrise Rotary Club.

 


 

Alisha Gibson

Alisha has been a clinical chair side dental assistant since September 1999. She is a graduate of Bradley Central High School and received her Tennessee Registered Dental Assistant certificate through the Oak Ridge Dental Assisting program. She later studied and
successfully challenged both sections of the Dental Assisting National Board Examination (DANB) and received her National Certification.

Her duties are primarily directed toward assisting Dr. DeArmond with direct patient care. Her talents as an artist give her an excellent eye for color and form that are critical in a modern dental practice. She has attended numerous continuing education programs presented by top clinicians from across the country. Her desire for personal growth in her career and a natural compassion for her patients are keys to her success as a clinical dental assistant.

She and her husband have three children. As a family they enjoy many outdoor activities including camping, fishing, water sports and four wheeling. Alisha also enjoys several types of arts and crafts including painting and fashioning jewelry.


Brandy Kelly

Brandy is the Dental Hygiene Coordinator and a critical part of our Administrative Team. She joined our team on November 29. 2011. She is primarily responsible for helping our patients properly schedule their cleaning and periodontal maintenance appointments with one of our three dental hygienists. Her calm manner and willingness to assist our patients is critical for any office. She is also available to assist our patients with any of their other scheduling concerns.

Brandy is a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School. She continued her education by attending Cleveland State Community College for 2 years.  She brings a background in customer service to our practice. She and her Husband, Justin have 2 children son, Dawson 5 and daughter, Karigan 1.

A busy schedule of work and keeping up with two active young children creates a full schedule. She does enjoy painting, riding horses, fishing, riding four wheelers and spending time with her family and friends.

Keisha has been a clinical chair side dental assistant since September 2006.  She is a 2005 graduate of Cleveland High School. She received her Tennessee Registered Dental Assistant certificate through the Oak Ridge Dental Assisting program in 2007. She received her Tennessee Registered Dental Assistant, RDA, credentials following completion of the Tennessee Board of Dentistry Examination.

Keisha’s keen eye and attention to detail make her a valuable asset in the clinic. She has attended numerous continuing education programs focused on advance dental procedures presented by top clinicians from across the country. She is always eager to learn new concepts wanting to understand why a particular approach to patient care is desirable. She brings a warm smile and comforting manner to our clinic.

Keisha and her husband Brett have two children, Adalynn and Branson.  Keisha and Brett are active in their church and enjoy spending time with their family.  Keisha enjoys cooking, traveling, and gardening.
